About Us

Rachael was inspired to create RAINA by her natural hair journey. When she was younger, she saw little representation of curly and ethnic hair types in media and society. It took years to learn to love her coily hair and, by extension, to fully love herself. She found that many women of color face similar challenges in recognizing their unique beauty apart from the often skewed beauty standards promoted to us.

She became more aware of the need for products made with textured hair in mind. Straw hats snagged at her 4c curls and wool hats sucked out the moisture, leaving her hair dry and brittle.

In addition, most hats were too small for her fro or too big for her twists–it was nearly impossible to find a hat that could adjust to her changing hairstyles. She wanted something that was fashionable while also addressing the unique needs of curly, textured hair.

She set out to build a brand that shows Black women and women of color that they are seen, that their needs matter, and that they are beautiful just the way they are.

RAINA, which means “queen” in multiple languages, is a celebration of the beauty of our hair. We offer satin lined, adjustable hats to protect and accessorize your crown.
